Scenics by Season

The landscape casts a spell. Basin, range, basin, range, a hypnotic, rhythmic spell across an expansive landscape. The ‘mountains of the Great Basin are defined as every fleeting mountain range eastward from the California’s Sierra Nevada westward to Utah’s Wasatch Front. They resemble the spirit of Basin residents: independent and alone, renegade sentinels permeating a sagebrush ocean of desert basin. Nevada and its Basin and Range Province seems to savor its own mystery, waiting in hiding, revealing its precious moments only to those it feels worthy of witnessing its unveiling.

Despite the Basin's magic, thoughts of a "desert wasteland" and "a pointless piece of ground" come as natural to most people's minds. However, every season in Nevada allows us to understand this enigmatic terrain just a little more. The Great Basin cannot be defined by words. A person must feel and witness this austere land to fully understand it. With that said, defining this gallery was difficult, because the Great Basin really is a large place! As such, I had to divide my landscape images based on the seasons. The seasons tell the full story of Nevada and the Great Basin in this expansive gallery, a gallery that not only includes Nevada, but the entire Basin province! Chalk that up to exploration!
